This weekend I attended a fundraising banquet for the Council of American-Islamic Relations’ Los Angeles Chapter with hubs and the in laws. CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding. I’m going to do a full post on this sometime soon, but Islamophobia has had a really large impact on the Muslim community. This article perfectly explains why it’s actually a public health issue and that’s why organizations like CAIR are so incredibly important.
It’s been a while since I really got to dress up for something, so I picked up this dress below from Love Culture earlier in the week while I was at the mall returning some things. For some reason I can’t find the same dress online so here’s a similar one, but mine had long sleeves.
The floral kimono was a purchase a from last summer and it’s something I used to make any formal outfit a little more modest. I threw this over my dress since it was a bit more form fitting than I’m used to.
Finally threw up my first ‘non-lazy’ top bun by which I mean I actually brushed my hair before putting it in a bun. I know I’ve talked about this before but I really do need to figure out how to make my hair look like it actually belongs on a real person’s head heh.
I picked up this bag my Fossil a few years ago at Nordstrom Rack after saving my paychecks during college. It’s one of my go-to bags for more formal events. I get a little stressed out since it’s such a light color but I really love the structure.
For details, I wore the jewelry pictured in the photo below and my watch by Citizen. For shoes, I wore these suuuuuper comfortable pointed flats I got at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago. They have this really interesting elastic band near the top that allows for them to widen when you wear them, which is great for me and my giant feet.
And the jewelry was a gift from my parents last year! For my make up, I’m working on a post about what I’ve been using this fall and into the winter but this matte lipstick in Nude Nuance has been one of my favorites!
I’ve been trying to do a better job of linking exact pieces or finding similar pieces but it’s so hard! I didn’t find a single thing that really matched. Let me know if you all have any tips on finding similar pieces online! Hope you all have a great week – please keep those who are suffering around the world in your thoughts and prayers.
