Finally took hubby to his first concert tonight! Turns out he’s not a fan but it’s all good because now he knows. I think it’s important to at least try something before you decide you dislike it. It was kind of a ‘belated’ birthday present for me but mostly it was a night we were both free and a we found a decent local show.

I think dressing comfortably is even more important when it comes to concerts, especially if you’re going to be standing for most of the night. I got this new top recently so I can put something on rotation with the oversized flanel that I seem to be living in.
The rest of the outfit were just comfy pieces I had hanging out in my closet. This gray t shirt/tank top dress is super soft and a great top to wear with leggings since it’s longer. I tied this brown oversized sweater around my waist because I get cold really easily and I wasn’t sure how long we’d be waiting outside. For details I went super simple with this heavy silver chain with a floral fabric woven through.

For shoes I wore my red converse because I wanted something comfortable that protected me from the trampling and beer spills.

The show was at one of my favorite venues since college called The Observatory in Santa Ana. It’s a really tiny venue so it’s usually a pretty intimate show and you can actually see the artist, which is a huge plus these days.

Atlas Genius opened the show, which was pretty great. I think the sound system in the venue was a little off because it was really hard to hear the vocals so that made it harder to enjoy the show. I remember when their song ‘Trojans’ first came on the radio, I saw this YouTube video of the whole band listening to it play on KROQ for the first time. I can’t even imagine how wonderful that must have felt to have worked so hard and finally see the reward. I think that’s probably one of my favorite things about music – there’s always room for another great song.

Passion Pit was headlining the show. Like I said before, we mostly picked this show based on when we were both free. I haven’t listened to much of their non-radio famous work but they’re pretty great performers. There was still that weird issue with the vocals when they were playing but it was still a good time.

I found our earlier today that one of my classmates was also going to the show tonight with his girlfriend and we ran into them, so that was cool. Kind of turned into an impromptu double date! See – who says med students can’t have fun!? We were at a concert on a Thursday night!

But really, I’m exhausted heh. We had a full day of classes from 8 AM to 5 PM and I had a meeting on for our next session with the Prison Health Project during lunch. Needless to say I’m looking forward to crawling into bed and waking up as late as I can manage with tomorrow’s schedule. Hope you all have a great weekend!
